May yer first footer bring ye a gift!

Something that used to get said in my house growing up in Scotland at New Year. A ‘first footer’ was the very first person to come through your door of the new year. They were considered lucky if brought a gift (in older times, the gift was usually a lump of coal for the fire).  It was always considered bad luck if the person came empty handed.

January has some cool days to get you over the hump of over-indulging at Christmas and New Year, e.g. National Science Fiction Day (2nd) any excuse to dress up as your favourite science fiction character is fine with us! Winnie the Pooh Day (18th) and National Cheese Lovers Day (20th), which sounds a bit cheesy to us….

2024 sees us here at The Craft Box planning lots of exciting new products and kits for you all to enjoy.  So look out for some of these over the coming weeks.

But until our next catch-up next month fellow crafters,  happy new year!

Lang may yer lum reek!

A very old greeting used in Scotland at New Year, meaning may your new year be a prosperous one – after all if you could afford to make your “lum reek” (keep your fire lit, smoke bellowing from the chimney) that would indeed make you wealthy back in the day.

Another year, another load of planning new products: we’ve been working hard to create newly designed general card kits for any occasion and birthday kits, plus we have some new topper sets coming your way so look out for those over the next few weeks.

But until our next catch-up next month,  happy new year!
